45 years ago, while I was still 7, I had PAL baseball. Our practices were held in Golden Gate Park. After practice, my dad would drive through GGP, and I loved the bison. On the way home, I also loved hearing Roberta Flack & Eric Mercury's "Only Heaven Can Wait (For Love)."
And then, for the rest of the 1980s we did not really hear "Only Heaven Can Wait (For Love)."
During the Fall 1991 quarter, we were in college. Roberta Flack's version of "Set The Night To Music" was huge, especially at dances, and in our dorms and college apartments.
And then, in early 1992, we started to hear "Only Heaven Can Wait (For Love)" again.
When we listened deeper into "Only Heaven Can Wait (For Love)," we thought it was about a relationship, which had gone on for far too long. Funny thing was, since we were in college, most of us did not have a boyfriend or girlfriend. And our past relationships were short-lived. So here we are, decades later. Subject matter aside, we still like listening to "Only Heaven Can Wait (For Love)." And with Roberta Flack's recent passing, maybe she can resume her duets from up above.
