When the video for Culture Club's "Church Of The Poison Mind" came out during the Fall 1983 semester, it inspired schoolmates to go in groups of 4.

While my friend (and writing partner) Scylla was getting her hair done, the rest of us got drinks. And Bay Area radio station 98.1 The Breeze played "Church Of The Poison Mind." I was nervous, learning how to drive Scylla's car, but bobbing our heads left and right was fun, and I forgot about driving. We still don't know what "Church Of The Poison Mind" is about, but Helen Terry's soulful backing vocals put it over the top. We still can't believe that this song is now 40 years-old.
