Most audiophiles were long out of high school, in the 1980s. Thus, they did not directly have the pleasure and frustration of using Sanrio stationery. Such products were popular among the nerd girls.
During the Fall 1988 semester, we did not know that Anthrax's "Now It's Dark" was written after the band had seen the David Lynch movie, Blue Velvet. Even if we had known that, none of my friends actually saw that movie. The band was relatively accessible. They prided themselves on being a bunch of regular guys from Brooklyn. They didn't do the stereotypical occult and devil stuff of other rock bands.
Our friend Elaine liked "Now It's Dark," but admitted that, while doing homework, it did make her lose focus on academics. Moreover, when suing Sanrio pens, her handwriting became sloppy.
As for the rest of us, we'd see Anthrax in 1990-91, sometimes as parts of the Clash Of The Titans tour, with Megadeth and Slayer.
