35 years ago, the days were getting shorter, it started to rain, Halloween came and went, and the dingy hallways lined with lockers put us into a Dungeons & Dragons mood. I can't speak for anyone else, but this was the setting, when I first heard about Swedish guitarist, Yngwie Malmsteen. His "I'll See The Light Tonight" was the first I recognized or identified. The cheesy video certainly, um, enhanced the dark and rainy (loved it!) holiday season.
While "I'll See The Light Tonight" was my introduction to Yngwie, a year later, his Trilogy would make him more well-known among my schoolmates. And then a year after that, in 87/88, my nerdy girlfriends, who were in the orchestra, observed how Yngwie took baroque and classical, sped them up, and played them in a rock band setting.
