The post-punk band, Romeo Void, were formed at the San Francisco Art Institute, then just two blocks away from the iconic Tower Records on Jones & Columbus, and two blocks from the crooked part of Lombard Street.
"A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)" was Romeo Void's strong answer to Michael Jackson's awful "Billie Jean."
Fall '84 semester. Instead of taking the 38-Geary buses home from Presidio Middle School, my friends and I could take the more scenic 2-Clement or 1-California. Since most lived in the Richmond District, by the time the buses got to Arguello, only a handful of us remained. I'll never forget standing on Bush and Webster, looking down the hill. Erika and Odessa, who lived nearby, were with me. Walkmen in tow, we heard "A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)" come on the radio. In all honesty, I probably heard the dance mix only 4 or 5 times. And no, I could not tell you which S.F. radio stations played it.
But anyway, needless to say, if an audio product is any good, "A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)" will take me back to Fall '84, when Erika, Odessa, and I stood on Bush Street, and looked down Webster Street.
