...in 1965 after I graduated from high school I started college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM.
Portales was in a dry county so on Friday nights there would be a long line of cars driving the 30 miles to Clovis to buy alcohol for the weekend.
My best story about my only semester there was early in the school year running into a guy I'd met in summer camp in Texas about 4 years earlier. His name was Mike Hodges and he had taught me a boogie riff on the piano back then.
It turns out he was also beginning college there as a freshman and he told me he had played piano on J. Frank Wilson and the Cavalier's hit song "Last Kiss".
I wonder if it had been recorded in that studio in Clovis in 1964.
I never saw him again on campus and figured he had dropped out.
