The Stereotypical Audiophiles cannot be faulted for missing out on Erasure's "Oh L'amour." A staple at high school dances, "Oh L'amour" was the song which put Erasure on the US map. Problem was, in 1986, the SAs were well into adulthood, but not old enough, that their kids were in high school.
It didn't matter if you were a boy or a girl; gay or straight; shy or outgoing; nerd or jock; white or brown. "Oh L'amour" broke down the self-conscious barriers.
You got on the dance floor, and sang:
Oh l'amour
Broke my heart and now I'm aching for you
Mon amour
What's a boy in love supposed to do?
Among Erasure songs, today's children probably are more into "Chains Of Love" and "A Little Respect." But that's okay; like the SAs, they'll come around to "Oh L'amour."
