Man! SO MANY good artists. This would really be a hard one. Heck... The 1960-early 70's Who is pretty good all by themselves. As is SRV wtih Double Trouble (esp when Reese Wynan jumped on board with keyboards).
All kinds of lead guitarists. I'm a plectum guy... so Peter Green, Otis Rush, Rory Gallagher, Leslie West... hell WAY too many great, unique guitarists.
In the vein of fingerpickers, Such as Mark Knopfler --- and as much as I'm A Greeny/FM era fan--- when I first heard this guy, we all said "how the heck is he getting that great tone?"
You can really hear a good fingerpicker on the electric . They just have this wonderful overtone to each note. Something, I only kinda hear in Billy Gibbon's or old EVH's pick harmonics (sometimes, not as subtle).
