It was nice to hear that Jimi actually acknowledged it was midnight on New Year's Eve.
I remember seeing Alice Cooper on New Year's Eve years ago. Rather than taking the opportunity to whip the crowd into a celebratory frenzy, they brushed past it so quickly (in the middle of some song) that many in the audience were unaware midnight had passed.

It was one of the more disappointing concerts I attended, and not simply because of the lack of holiday showmanship. Many speculated the band was drunk, and they were simply going through the motions.

The REAL reason the concert was a disappointment for me came only in retrospect. The people I was with decided to stay at my friends house and drink beer instead of going to hear the opening act for Alice Cooper, an unknown (to us) band. During the next year or so, I became very familiar with them. We sat home and drank through ZZ Top.
