Don't get me wrong, I sure don't mean to deter you. Go, and have a good time and just don't mind the possible crowd and the high cost. If you're here for a while you might want to check out the link to the NYC Jazz Bible club listing I'll provide below. You're in the right place, if you're looking for live jazz, that is. Just a matter of finding the right fit! Take a walk just a couple of blocks to the north and west of the BlueNote and catch Chris Potter at the Village Vanguard while you're here. A real bargain compared to the BN! I'm heading over there tomorrow night myself. The Smalls recommendation may be a good one... not big name acts but they advertise all night jazz too - take a look at their link on the jazz bible site... 10 hours of jazz for ten bucks, or something like that. The Iridium is good for big name acts, the jazz standard is a good place with good basic jazz all the time, and there are so many others. Right around the corner from the BN is the 55 bar, a tiny little bar that always features guitar jazz. Uptown you have Birdland, which can also get expensive if you have dinner there, but it's first class treatment for the price - it's my favorite. I don't think there's anyone particularly interesting coming in there very soon, but it's a good venue. Check out the link, and if I can be of any assistance, let me know.Mike
