It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: I think its God. Or Whatever.

I'm probably with you in most respects Bagsy.

Nature gives someone the physical and mental potential to reach a certain level of both performance and creativity, but that potential can only be achieved through hard work and sacrifice. We've all seen naturally gifted sportsmen for instance who didn't have the correct mental attributes to totally fulfill - or at least maintain - their potential for greatness.

For a composer/musician, nature provides the potential for superior physical dexterity/speed and mental dexterity/complexity, but this is merely providing the individual with better tools to do his job than you or I.
Combine this potential with an almost obsessive personal drive and the tools are honed to a degree normal men would find almost superhuman.

However, although the culmination of all these attributes could explain more complex, more intricate, more impressive compositions than less gifted musicians/composers could dream of, the ability to elicit emotional responses from experienced listeners who may remain unmoved by other apparently equaly complex, technically supreme works by similarly driven, gifted artists is a quality which remains very frustrating for psychologists to rationalise.

The same psychologists will explain how love is simply a case of endorphines and basic animal lust etc, when those who have experienced being in 'lust' which soon evaporates know that genuine love for a partner can exist with no lust whatsoever.

Regardless of whether one is religeous or not, it is a matter of faith to accept we can be raised to another emotional level above that which can be explained purely by the programmed physical responses caused by the various chemicals being released into the system, and when an artist can do this by either his compositions, performances or both, it is in my opinion an almost spiritual experience which further defines our position as being totally distinct from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Best Regards,
Chris Redmond.
