The prerformances on this disc are really good, with a cappella versions of "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child", and "Shenandoah". But the hissing noise from either, (1) the singers, or (2) some form of compression is AWFUL. The right channel breathes! It sounds like the bathtub is running in the right channel. But as soon as the singers fade, and the instruments kick in, the sound is quite pristine. Can anyone refer me to, say, a digitally recorded collection of similar music, with better sonics. BTW, until I heard this album two weeks ago, I thought I hated this kind of music. You live and learn.
