His recordings never particularly bowled me over, but I'll tell you what - I saw him live a couple of times, and he's a better player live than comes across on recordings. Last time I saw him play was with the Jazztimes Superband, with Randy Brecker and Joey Defrancesco, and Berg put on a very solid performance. It's sad to see anyone's life cut short so suddenly. I'll listen to a couple of his CDs tonight in his memory.
