dontcha think? are you basing the anemic bass comments on vinyl or cd copies? to be honest, the post was so long i only scanned thru it quickly.
if he werent the state of the art recordist that some others are, he at least he had the foresight to record some of the best jazz and jazz artists ever.
i havent made it my business to analyze all recordings that closely, im usually caught up in the music. mostly i am amazed how good most recordings are, and i am not that enamored of audiophile recordings. some have been fantastic, and they usually are done in minimalist fashion.
i am also not a fan of recordings like most of diana kralls CDs. so squeaky clean perfect that there is no humanism left in them. a good contrast to those is her newest-live in paris. i purposely bought the dvd because when i saw her sessions at w. 54th video, i was immediately taken by its humanistic presentation. i could have gone for the sacd but to be honest, with the video, theres no need.
im glad to have the resolving power of my equipment as you also must be but i wont let it detract from my enjoyment of the music making. i hope you can do the same.
......regards.....tr
