It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Sibelius #2 Comparisons?

Good picks from Dave and Mark. I personally like Barbirolli (he did this work on record a few times, but the Chesky RPO--originally from a Readers Digest LP set--is rather special). The Sanderling CD set sounds like quite a deal; I have Rozhdestvensky doing the cycle on vinyl, and he does a remarkable job IMO. I find the Karajan EMI/Angel Sibelius 2 to be good, but on a slightly less exalted plane than his 5th from that cycle; his later DGGs don't do as much for me. Haven't heard the Kamu but would like to.

Just as a reminder: Szell/Concertgebouw on Philips is considered tops by many people, and I'm sure I've seen it on a CD transfer. I've never really warmed up to it, even though I'm a serious fan of most of Szell's work.

Enjoy the search for your own favorite,

Dirk
