...try Jim Hall's 'Live at the Village Vanguard' on Telarc, at the world famous joint in NY; or, try Bill Bruford's Earthworks 'Footloose and Fancy Free' on Digital Global Mobile - recorded at the Pizza Express Jazz Club, in Soho, London 2001.Neither of these is particularly considered 'audiophile' [ie, they're outside the normal music-radar reaches of the 'grey brigade'] and so don't attract 'audiophile' prices, but their sound quality surpasses many a sterile 'audiophile' silver disc, including some of the brands listed below. And by the way, unlike a lot of sonically sublime dross, the music on these is pretty good, especially the Bill Bruford disc(s - its a double).
