Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: A few too many BMWs here on Music Lane (IMO)

Well Gee, Jason. My disagreement with another poster's opinion compelled you to write. Which is stranger here - being compelled to strongly differ with an opinion on music, or being compelled to write to voice an opinion on how we express our differences of opinions? I think you've one-upped me there! You think that Geo's opinion drives me mad, but my difference of opinion with hime drives you mad.

But seriously, what is it that you'd like here... a nice-nice little space where we're all in agreement, pat each other's backsides, live and let live? What fun would that be? Worse yet... how interesting would it be? Besides, Geo is a big boy and can speak for himself. He and I have differed in opinion before, and if he doesn't like what I say, I think he's perfectly capable of letting me know it.

My last point is that had you seen beyond the surface, you would have realized that the fervor of my reply here is not only due to someone else's dislike of this particular CD that I happen to appreciate (that happens all the time here), but rather a continuation of an ongoing wake-up-call to the naysayers and pessimists (the BMWs) who through naivety, ignorance, or the aforementioned prejudice - hasten the demise of jazz in a woeful, negative, self-fulfillingly prophetic way through the relative neglect of 'important' new releases by 'big name' jazz artists of today. I won't go into that whole diatribe again - if you haven't seen it and are interested - let me know and I'll provide the link to my ranting on the subject a month or so ago. Fair warning though - It will be arduous reading for someone who like us all to get along and not express opposing opinions - an activity that I supposed this was a suitable forum for.

Thanks for your input. Maybe I will just chill out. from now on. It's a thankless job being the 'infallible voice of reason and sanity' - especially when you're in an asylum (thanks, Dmitry).

Regards,
Mike
