Reference Recordings "Big Band Basie" is a very well-recorded college orchestra, featuring some of the distinguished soloists who played with the Basie Band, playing a lot of his music. I'm fortunate enough to have a 1961 Columbia 6-eye record of the Basie Band and the Ellington Orchestra playing together; and, musically, the collegians hold up to the originals very well.The record I am speaking of "Count Meets Duke" is very, very good musically and sonically (it's true stereo). If it's been released on a digital format and is still available, I think you would like it. (I'm assuming it's not been re-released on vinyl.)
