Aaaarrrrrrgggghhhh! indeed!!!My vote for the most drumming/least equipment champion goes to Warren "Smitty" Smith. Saw him about 15 years ago with one snare drum, one bass drum, and one cymbal. The drummers in the crowd were eyeing this before the gig, swearing that there was no way that anyone could do anything with this spartan setup. Were they ever wrong!
And to prove that I don't reflexively disagree with every Stanley Crouch opinion, I'll add Max Roach to your list :-)
