While I'm sure others will provide more modern recording recommendations, I should probably also mention that both Furtwangler and Toscanini did this piece...and the attributes one would expect from each conductor are apparent in each case. Might be worth looking up even though the sound isn't quite so splendid as you might like.Happy spinning,
Dirk (whose first memories of the Hebrides O'ture are from the Warner Bros. cartoons of the infamous mynah bird, now seldom seen because of the unfortunate and decidedly non-p.c. way it depicted the young black native hunter--they DID use that music to wonderfully spooky and ominous effect, though)
