I've been listening to Ella Mae Morse every day for the last two weeks. The Very Best Of Ella Mae Morse (Collectables CD2732) is a good one. Love her version of "Forty Cups Of Coffee".Another good disc is the Boswell Sisters' That's How Rhythm Was Born (Columbia 66977). Connie Boswell could really swing, and had a great voice. The Boswells predated Ella Mae by about ten years, but were doing really inovative stuff for their time.
Also been into Wee Bonnie Baker with the Orrin Tucker Orchestra. Completely different style then Morse, with that cutesy little girl voice. The Best Of Orrin Tucker And His Orchestra (Sony Music Special Products A30907) is a fun intro, particularly the song "My Resistance Is Low".
