Elvis Costello Rhino Remasters

63.210.120.133

Just fininshed listing to Elvis' "My aim is True" and "This Year's Model" from Rhino and I thought to share the listening experience.

This Years Model - I do not have the original disc to compare to, but I can certainly say that the imaging on this CD is better than I expected.

The drum track on "Radio, Radio" has (gasp)depth and great soundstage. "Little Triggers" piano sounds like a piano and the bass is prominent and tight...quite enjoyable. The best quality evident throughout is the midrange. EC's colorful voice exhibits nuance of charactor. 4.5 Stars for Sound quality. 4 Stars for Song quality.

"My Aim is True" - This CD is superior compared to the original CD issue and LP issue. The opeing track "Welcome to the Working Week" exhibits depth in the vocal harmonies. "Alison" exhibits nuance within EC's jazz/blues inspired guitar riffs. "Waiting for the end of the world" is tight on the bass and fast in the transient response of EC's guitar licks. Soundstaging and imaging throughout is almost as good as "This Year's Model".

Overall, the original CD & LP sound as if they were recorded in a trash can - read - very bright. I think the recording technique was to tape the songs as hot as possible - which led to some compression and edge to the music and voice of EC. The Rhino CD does not escape the detriments of the previous sources, but the end result is clearly more listenable - make that enjoyable. 4.0 Stars for Sound quality. 5 Stars for Song quality.

I can't believe that I just spent 40 minutes on this!!!
