The thread below about the 1812 overture reminded me of an incident some years ago.
At our monthly music fest with friends I was playing the Solti recording of Wagner's "Das Rheingold" (vinyl of course) in a darkened room and had the wick turned up for more dramatic effect. And boy oh boy it was dramatic. As Loge hit the anvil at some obscene decibel level the B&W 70 electrostaic panel emitted a gigantic lightning flash and promptly died!!!
It was a great party trick which caused much amusement but is really not recommended.
Fortunately only a fuse had blown but .....
