For those jazz fans unaware of Chris Cheek, check this record out. It is on the Fresh Sound New Artist Label. A quartet album recorded live in spain. All Standards and essentially all ballads. This is Chris' second Fresh Sound record which demonstrates his sublime skill. Very very few players can play at these slow tempos and continue to deliver fresh ideas. His first record, I Wish I Knew is a gem and this record may be even better. Ethan Iverson on piano and Jorge Rossy on drums ( I forgot the bass player). This is MASTERFUL tenor saxophone playing. Captivating. Every note is played with feeling and each phrase is a GEM. Tea for Two....Lester could not have played it any better.
