If you like Steve Earle (as I do), here's a couple of other suggestions:Marah, "Kids in Philly"- These guys are signed to a label that Earle started. It's a compelling mix of alt-country, rock, r & b.
Ryan Adams- He tills in the same field as Earle. He's not as good a singer (nobody is), but he definitely has some great chops as a writer. Has solo albums and albums as part of the group Whiskeytown. Bonus: any of his stuff produced by Ethan Johns is really well done, from an audiophile standpoint.
The only album of Earle's to avoid is the live one, BTW.
