I had never seen Jimmy Smith live, but this was far more than I had bargained for. He was mumbling in 'Monklish' and more importantly playing like a madman. His group, notably guitarist Phil Upchurch, were smokin' as well.Forget about the Santana inspired Dot.Com Blues, this was unreal. Even when he played a few songs from the CD, they were real, pure jazz renditions. He's quite a showman too.
