John,Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that there is a lot of variability
in quality. I have the newer G2 Real Audio player, and it can be
decent at times. On balance, however, I find that the MP3s and
Windows Media Player files sound better. One thing about MP3
that I like is that it plays in my browser automatically--no waiting
for another application to open. The music clubs offer lots of
samples now, and that's a benefit.Overall it appears that you and I are about equal in our
explorations to date, but I suspect you know much more about
the inner workings of these matters. Regardless of how it works
it is nice to have opportunities to sample before buying. Thanks
