Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that there is a lot of variability
in quality. I have the newer G2 Real Audio player, and it can be
decent at times. On balance, however, I find that the MP3s and
Windows Media Player files sound better. One thing about MP3
that I like is that it plays in my browser automatically--no waiting
for another application to open. The music clubs offer lots of
samples now, and that's a benefit.

Overall it appears that you and I are about equal in our
explorations to date, but I suspect you know much more about
the inner workings of these matters. Regardless of how it works
it is nice to have opportunities to sample before buying. Thanks
again for your comments.
