I would second the recommendation on the Charlie Haden piano trios. I would also add that you may want to hear the Thelonious Monk Riverside Trios. One of the records is Monk doing standards, the other is more "traditional" Monk. (I say records because I got this as a two-record set -- I don't know how it's available on CD if that's what you're looking for).
