BN was about the only small label that had paid rehearsals before the actual tapings, so I disagree about the "haphazard "blowing sessions" ". Indeed, Prestige records of 1950s may sound like they lack cohesiveness, since some of them were taped only after one or two takes. I'm no big BN post-1966 fan, but there were some jewels left in the second half of that decade-
Sam Rivers - Dimensions and Extensions
Jackie McLean - New and Old Gospel
Booker Ervin - The In-Between
Herbie Hancock - Speak Like a Child
Larry Young - Contrasts
Wayne Shorter - Schizophrenia
etc.

I guess it's a matter of personal taste.
