The Viennese Action forte-piano - an example of of which being what Brautigam plays - is a very successful attempt at producing a much louder clavichord, while retaining the clavichord's tonal purity, clarity, and ability to play very quietly.
The double action piano, and its iron framed successors are the successors to the harpsichord.
