When we were in high school in the late 1980s, the Red Cross Club was all girls. Their final event for the school year was a blood drive. They had to wait as long as possible, to recruit as many donors as possible. You see, in order to give blood, you had to be a certain age and weight. So that meant that donors were mostly seniors.
During that June 1989 blood drive, we overheard the ballad, "Right Next To Me," by Whistle. It was never all that well-known, so when you get tired of mainstream radio, you seek out obscure material, such as Whistle's "Right Next To Me."
Once we turned adult, blood draws were done in the crook of the elbow. That's a location, which makes a lot of us cringe.
