Actually I don't think she regrets that too much and history hasn't proven her wrong with the catholic church (and thus the Pope) turning a blind eye to molesting children and some of the other heinous things they have done.
Appeasing religion isn't high on my list of things to do. Many of the world's problems would go away if people stopped believing in all the religious nonsense. O'Conner though hasn't just traded in one giant cult for another. That is the shame INMO.
The best countries in the world to live, have the least amount of religion.
Dixie Chicks too - they lost some fans but those were idiots - I would not want those people to be my fans because then I'd have to sully myself by meeting them and signing autographs - yuck. A bunch of reject red hat-wearing dimwits - no thanks. I want a higher class of fan, I might lose a lot of sales but I could sleep at night.
