In most areas of life - I tend to compare a lot of things - I review audio equipment after all. But with music and art I tend NOT to do that because Art is a creation from someone for the purposes of giving people pleasure.I find a lot of people who dump on the likes of Phil Collins is because he isn't making the kind of music they think he should be making.
Phil is pop/soft-rock/jazz/easy listening artist. He is the male version of a blend of Gloria Estefan and Sade. (Two artists I also like)
I take music genres at their levels. I am quite fine with pop music, rock music, jazz, Big Band Jazz, Classical (all periods), instrumental, world, electronic, trance, metal, showtunes, 60s, 70s,80s,90s,00, etc
So I like Phil on those terms. He has a soft relaxing voice and his accompaniment is played by real musicians not a synthesizer.
Phil was drummer for the following:
"Band Aid - Do They Know Its Christmas; Adam Ant - Puss N Boots; Tears For Fears - Woman In Chains; Howard Jones - No One Is To Blame; Philip Bailey - The Chinese Wall; Eric Clapton - Bad Love; Frida - I Know There's Something Going On ... as well as playing drums on album tracks by Peter Gabriel; Brian Eno; Brand X; Mike Oldfield; John Martyn; Paul McCartney & Tina Turner; and was the mainstay drummer at numerous Princes Trust Gigs."
