Streaming on Netflix, this intriguing and nicely built documentary
on Clarence Avant shows his (still) wide ranging influence on (primarily)
black popular music, film, TV, politics, social and cultural change, and
the move forward by African Americans over the past few decades.
He's a classic example of the American Dream and how the strength of
personality, intrinsic intelligence, self belief and a big heart can propel
you to sussex. It helps that he knew who he knew, knows what he knows
and KNOWS how to put all that together to reach a harmonious end.
He's a fantastic character (a teacher, a light) that has taken old(er)
world know how and used it to rub shoulders with new(er) world
try to know how. Just HOW many people he knows and connected
to achieve a lasting mark on our culture is no less than amzing.
A GREAT documentary on the type of person that doesn't come along
very often, but came along at the right time to make a huge difference
AND leave enough recorded material for a... great documentary.
