I can't say I've heard direct comparisons in a recording, but I can say that guys playing piano in the jazz and particularly in the experimental scene tend towards Yamaha. One model in particular, I don't recall which, is favored for its access inside the piano, where guys will 'prepare' it with bits and pieces of various things or just pluck the strings with their fingers...or whatever.
