Kidd even in his 80's is a free jazz whirlwind. His playing is not for the faint of heart, but once you get attuned to it you can hear the great soul he puts into his music. He is not really a recording artists; most of what that is available are live sets, and he has never been all that interested in making recordings of his own music I particularly like his various live recordings with Chicago tenon player Fred Anderson, but my favorite cd is Palm of Soul, a somewhat more reigned in affair with the great Hamid Drake and William Parker; it is certainly the most tuneful of his cd's.
