Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Happy Birthday to JS Bach!

Listening to KDFC as I work through some relatively boring stuff this am. Right now they are playing the Concerto for 2 violins in d-minor. Julia Fischer and friend, so non HIP.

My favorite Bach recordings:

Brandenburgs - Harnoncourt/Concentus Musicus, the first recording.

Goldberg Variations - Gould, first and second recordings (very different), Kirkpatrick, and Gilbert.

Christmas Oratorio -again, Harnoncourt's first recording, although I also enjoy the Netherlands Bach Society on Channel Classics.

E.Power Biggs playing various works, including the Toccata and Fugue in d-minor

Parkening Plays Bach.

Some of these are LPs, some SACDs, some CDs.

I am not as familiar with the violin sonatas/partitas or the cello suites as I would like to be, nor the b-minor Mass. I am more familiar with the St. Matthew Passion, but I have a hard time getting inside it.
