It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

A few favorites of Debussy's La Mer.

Here's a few of my all time favorites, the ones I listen to with any regularity. They're fleshed out with more Debussy, as a rule, or some Ravel. In no particular order.

Guido Cantelli/ Philharmonia Orch., on ICA. Can be hard to find. Live. Good, detailed sound for 1954, the earliest recording I have. Has a great Schuman 4th and Debussy's rarely performed incidental music for a contemporary mystery play based on the martyrdom of St. Sebastian.

Jean Martinon/ l'Orchestra National ORTF. Reference stuff on a mid-price Debussy twofer.

Paul Paray/ Detroit, Mercury Living Presence. Comes with a stunning Mother Goose.

Bernard Haitink/ Concertgebouw, Philips. Another reference version. A particularly lovely hall. Comes with a good chunk of Debussy's best orchestral music. The 96/24 bit sound is the one to go for.

Pierre Boulez/ Cleveland, DG. More visceral and dramatic than most.
