And I certainly agree with you about Ms. Solberg. Even in those brief excerpts, you can hear her great range from high notes to low as well as dynamics, her pure tone, lyrical phrasing and excellent control and intonation. And I agree she does not sound especially similar to Callas other than both having a pure soprano tone and the ability to hit the high notes with authority (though those things are significant). As many have noted, Callas had a unique, distinctive sound. I haven't made the AB comparison, but I can easily believe she sounds much more like Kiri Te Kanawa.
I wouldn't presume to judge her further based on those short excerpts, but she certainly knows how to sing. As did Lucia Popp, also a favorite of mine. Really, these are all great singers, even if you favor one over another.
