Although I've seen Slatkin conduct only twice (one was the Bartok Violin Concerto No. 1 with Lisa), I know his work almost entirely from recordings, which I find wildly variable, the Copland disc with the DSO being the best I've heard, and the Berlioz and Ravel (with all deference to Ivan303!) with his Lyon orchestra the worst. (And I heard the Lyon recordings, like the Detroit Copland disc, on blu-ray audio.) Most of Slatkin's other recordings are pretty middling IMHO.
