My very first purchase, back in fifties, with a months allowance was a used 10" mono LP of Tchaikovsky first piano Concerto performed by Ania Dorfmann, the second purchase was also used, this time a 12" mono LP of LVB Eroica with Erich Kleiber/VPO, the slow movement on that LP had a massive scratch that hit in one of the quietest passages, even today sixty years later every time I hear that movement I get nervous, something inside my brain send me an automatic warning to brace for that magnificent scratch, brace for it, its coming!!!!!
