Ella at her best really is beyond compare, fortunate that recording technology existed in her time ... imagine had they had it during Beethoven's life ... there's a scary though, people dropping dead, everyone potch marked. I imagine there must be some Stravinsky on film, Rachmaninoff, de Falla, Ravel, Debussy ...
Norman Granz had a great effect on Ella, the style he suggested she must have been just ready for! ... plus a world full of talent, great american songbook era ... Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Dizzy Gillespie, Glen Miller, Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Davis/Evans, John Coltrane, Roy Eldridge, on and on and on ...
