It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Child singers

The vocal prodigies I've heard usually blow out their voices pretty early. Plus, they rarely know how to sing very well. They might be good mimics but lack any real depth. How could they, given their limited life experience?

Charlotte Church is a prime example. She might have ended up with an impressive voice, with the proper training and time to mature. As it turned out, she was washed up by her late teens, just the time when a gifted singer should start to bloom.

The human voice really needs time to develop and mature. Overwork the vocal folds too early, and improperly, and there is hell to pay. This is in contrast to the muscles needed to play an instrument. The harder a child works them, the stronger they get. Male opera singers typically don't reach full vocal maturity until the late 40s. Age 8 is a far cry from that.

This child has some charm but personally I can't stand her vibrato. One shudders to think what it will be at 20 or 30.

My feeling is that child vocal prodigies are, unfortunately, usually paraded around like trained monkeys. Very sad to see.
