Went to Die Frau Ohne Schatten last night, and, as others have reported, it is outstanding. I'm so happy to see that production back. Christine Goercke is a wonder, and the house erupted when she came on for her curtain call, as well it should. I didn't notice any "wobblyness" from Ildikó Komlósi's Nurse, but my critical faculties recede when I'm enjoying something that much. BTW, I'm a new fan of Vladimir Jurowski, who coaxed an amazing range of textures from the strings.
I had forgotten about the lighting gimmick for the "beautiful landscape" scene near the end: they cleared the set, lowered the lighting racks and brought up the house lights to take us out of the spirit world, our of the dreary world of Barak and his wife, and out of the theater world. It's a cheap trick, but it works.
The only downside for me was the "odorama" aspect, courtesy of a couple lovely elderly ladies in the next box. Their perfume was a mix of tea rose, Vicks Vapo-Rub, and stale gasoline. Of course they took advantage of each intermission to jump back into a tub of the stuff.
