FYI,
Here is a solid group that represents some fine Brazilian jazz music which appears to be hitting the U.S. east coast jazz scene with high regards. The group is called Minas with co-founders Orlando Haddad and Patricia King supported by a few of Brazil's finest musicians (drums, percussion, bass). Haddad (vocals and guitar) and King (vocals and piano) combine as a vocal duet and project some outstanding harmony in their music. The instrumentation of the supporting musicians as well as Haddad's and King's own playing (guitar, piano) adds a very strong Latin jazz flavor to the vocal harmony. Minas dedicates much of their inspiration to one of Brazil's famous composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim. To date, Minas has 3 CD titles available on the Orchard records label. I highly recommend their 2nd title, "Dreams of Brazil" which features unique compositions that reflect the classic styles of Bossa-nova, and of course Samba. Their latest title, "Blue Azul" is also a very solid presentation of Minas' talent and musicality.
Regards and enjoy :-)
