hey trout bumSince no one seems to care whether we talk fishing without including music...:-)))
Just came back from Ollala Lake on the coast today. Hooked up on a steelie big time with my 4wt. The guy had to be 10-12 pounds and just full of piss and vinegar. I just went thru and re-tied all my line-to-line knots after good advice from Bill Nash (you may know him from Flyfishing Review) and I'm happy to report they all held nicely...too bad I had a 4 lb tippet on:-) I actually thought at one point I might have a chance of bringing him in. He towed me around for 10 minutes (literally) and I thought that the combination of drag from the reel and pulling 225 lbs of boat and fisherman around would tire him out. The dude just kept running though, and he eventually broke off. The cool thing though was that the 4-turn surgeons knot held and the Trilene knot at the fly held up. The tippet was 18 inches long before it broke and only 11 inches long after it broke. It didn't break at the hook or the leader-to-tippet connection, which I guess says that both knots are 100%:-) I'm going back with 6lb tippet...
I sure do like Carrie Newcomer.
