Here are a couple of female performers that are highly favored in their craft:Ursula Dudziak- A vocalist with a very creative/progressive style of music. She could be best described as an "electrified wordless" vocalist. She has been working with Michal Urbaniak since the late mid-60's in which he works with synthesized instruments. Ursula's vocals are processed by Michal to add a very creative ambience(if not dark) and variation of style. Even though the vocals are processed, she has a clear vocal signature that is impressive. IMO, their discography has touched broad categories of rock, fusion, and even folk.
Kendra Shank- A distinct jazz vocalist that has a very clear/pure voice that is accompanied by a small ensemble of solid musicians. Compositions also include a flavor of folk which adds to the music's "fingerprint". Here is a quick excerpt from a Time magazine article that states it best, "Women jazz singers are popping up like new sitcoms these days, but Kendra Shank's delectable voice--warm-toned, fine-grained, quietly sexy--sets her well apart from the crowd, as does her knack for picking unhackneyed, slightly off-center material (Abbey Lincoln's 'Angel Face', Jule Styne's 'You Say You Care'). Add in the crystalline piano playing of Frank Kimbrough, and you get an album that clings to the memory. The up-tempo tunes swing hard; the ballads shimmer and shine. Get in on the ground floor: this lady is going up."
