You don't have to be a musician to appreciate or understand music. (I assume that's the thread you mean.) Once you've spent many hours studying, practicing, thinking about and performing something, you never hear it quite the same way again. But even a first-time listener can be just as good a listener, or a better one, with a broader or fresher perspective, even if he doesn't have every note memorized the way the musician does.
