I did some searching and found that the SF Symphony Chorus consists of 180 singers, or which 30 are paid. Of all the US Symphony orchestras right now, I think the SF Symphony is among those in the best financial shape - maybe even THE best financial shape, so maybe they have more options for payment for services - I'm not sure, but I do know that they've been paying principal chorus members for a long time.
I haven't heard them in the Missa Solemnis or the Verdi Requiem, but the embedded video here and the link below may provide a taste of how they sound in the Mahler Eighth. (BTW, not being a fan of MTT, I do not have this recording.)
