Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

These are not my words, but I feel the same!!

Is it just me or are there others who find the news of the death of Amy
Winehouse extremely sad and distressing? Despite all the "bad" press and endless stories of her self destruction over the last several years, I never stopped cheering for her. I thought she was marvelously talented. Her "Moody's Mood for Love" and "(There Is) No Greater Love" covers from her "Frank" album rank among the best ever, as far as I'm concerned. I always hoped she would be able to pull herself together and rise above her demons. She was NOT just another flash in the pan voice for me. She paid tribute to the best of our greatest jazz interpreters in the age of gangsta rap and hip hop, unashamedly invoking the
sounds and feelings of Billie Holiday, Annie Ross, Anita O'Day and Carmen McRae among others, throughout her work, despite the trends which might have labeled her proclivity as "passe". I for one mourn her loss.

Sure she will have detractors but one cannot deny the fact that she touched lot's of people of all ages, which is pretty rare for a so called
"Pop singer"
